THE LATEST PROJECT a BMW R71 replica.

We picked up a 1957 CJ750 it has had its fair share of problems!

Here it is when we bought it.

The Journey to it's new home...

 Home...

Shortly after getting the bike home I realized it had some major charging issues due to a combination of bad wiring and the alternator rotor being burnt up.  So I sent it to Atlanta Georgia to be re wound and epoxied.
 Out for a ride.

The Transmission Fluid was full of water!!!!

After around 5 or 6 flushes and some new gear oil.
The Final Drive shortly after blew the seal!!!
The needle bearings were missing needles?
All cleaned up and ready for new bearings.  The new bearings were hard to find!  But we found some in Mobile Alabama and made a road trip to get them.  I also replaced the wheel bearings all the way around on all 4 wheels.

Reassembled Final Drive (above)
Not long after the Final Drive rebuild I was riding to work after getting called in on a Saturday and the bike was running abnormally well when all at once the power was instantly cut in half.
After a few quick  checks the right side cylinder didn't have any compression so it was gonna be major internal damage besides the major oil burning as visible on the piston.  Sad day, really sad day.
Here's the culprit!  My exhaust valve called it quits.  The chunk missing at the top of the vavle was welded to the top of the cylinder wall.
As I dug deeper more issues surfaced, like these wrist pin bushings so add some more cost to the shopping cart.  Not to mention the cylinders would need to be bored to the next over size (machine costs!) as well as the cost of the over sized pistons, piston rings and wrist pins!
Looks like somebody didn't like to warm up the motor?
 Cleaning of the Heads

 Heads all cleaned up

Cleaning and polishing the valve adjustment covers

Since the wrist pin bushings are pressed in I made a improvised press to get the new bushings in and it worked great!
 Bushings all pressed in.
New Valves installed in the freshly bored cylinders.

Cylinder 2 next to the matched new Piston.
Installing the Pistons in the Cylinders

Cylinders installed and ready for the heads.

Adjusting the Valves I adjusted the intake to 0.1mm and the Exhaust to 0.15mm
Fully assembled and ready for the road.

The latest picture with the new black wheels and new tires and brakes, not that you can see the brakes.
